Third Place, Japan

Architect:Kazuhiko Kishimoto

Project:Beyond the Hill

This is a combined construction of a residence, office and a small gallery. The young and active clients
lead a dynamic life here. Supported by pilotis and appearing like a floating wooden box, this building is
characterized by its exterior. The building was set apart and freed from the land which descends along
the front side street, and a stepped approach was set up to prevent the building from blocking the flow of
people. As a result, the gaze is drawn and expanded toward the trees stretching out in the back of the land.
The stepped approach leads to an open courtyard, which is an extension of the gallery and also serves as
an outdoor gallery.
