Project:Cer Modern Art Center

The Railways Repair Shops in Ankara, built in the first years of the Turkish Republic, have “memorial” significance
regardless of their architectural value.
CER Modern Arts Center incorporates these old repair shops’ spatial qualities into the enlarged complex
with a contemporary approach. Preserved buildings were transformed to gallery spaces with their unique
atmosphere.
A curvilinear and transparent wall wraps the two old units, like a bandage and provides a strong connection
between the old and the new building. New buildings not only become integrated with the old ones but also
emphasize the open courtyard.
As a result, CER Modern became a valuable contribution to the urban transformation with its central location
and the delicate mix of old and new functions.
