Project:Ayang Gichatgil
Ayanggichatgil is a design project that preserved a closed railroad bridge built in 1935 in Daegu, Korea. It
was saved from demolishment and converted into a rest area and museum, revitalizing the context of the
entire bridge.
The efforts of the local citizens enabled the local government and corporations to support the construction
of cultural service facilities such as a bridge museum, meditation institute, and an observatory in the bridge.
It’s a convergence of design between civil engineering, construction, material engineering and optical
techniques. They merged objectives in order to preserve the history of the bridge, balance the development
of the surrounding regions, improve the ecological environment, and support the local culture of the citizens.
