Project Title

Pouria Ahmadi
The client approached us for the design of a plot of about 186 square meters. Maximum use of land density was the main desire of this family of four. So that it has the power to respond to the expectations of users and occupants. Given that the project’s location in Isfahan’s Marnan neighborhood, which is close to Jolfa, ancient churches, and the Armenian community. The most significant influencing characteristic of this quarter can be seen in the old buildings and houses that were constructed using Isfahan’s previous architectural styles. A provision to include a symbol of contemporary functions while maintaining its connection to history and the past, we sought to develop a flexible concept and a new definition of space within the historical context. From the very beginning of the design process, we faced some basic issues such as inappropriate dimensions and land retreat, and vertical connection between floors. How to satisfy the proprietor’s needs was the crucial question for us. Our team’s innovative work involved understanding the house’s semantics and defining its utilities at the same time so that, ultimately, an architectural space could be created from their usage. We defined the first step of building in 4 levels: 1. Basement: The house was sunk into the ground to create a well-lit garden pit, and it was considered a recreation space. 2. Ground floor: It was considered as a family guest house for its spatial quality and for creating a new connotation. 3. The first floor: it was placed for the main living room and the association of a semi-private spot in the house. 4. The second floor: creating a private space and placing the bedrooms, which were interwoven with the terrace area and the view for a sense of tranquility. The facade of a building belongs to the public persona and apart from giving a sense of esthetics, it can have another narrative to articulate. For this purpose, the core facade was formed with the sense of association of Parthian buildings: Bash Hor, and Kah Khwaje Palace, because they are influential buildings in the history of architecture. The entrance of any milieu is the first and most important link of people’s connection with the spot; therefore, the tall entrance is one of the components of the volume of the building, creating a sense of invitation and maximum invitation of light into the space. The interior design of this lieu was based on innovation, simplicity, and maintaining visual integrity. In order to strengthen the simplicity of the concept, the use of various materials has been avoided and the utilization of light and bright materials such as white colors and mirrors has been contemplated.
